What golfa is

golfa.. ("the App") is a paid membership app for golfers, operated by Preserve the Game ("we," "us"). This policy describes what information the App collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We built golfa as a private club, and we treat member data accordingly: we collect what the product needs to work, and nothing else.

What we collect

• Account information. Email address, display name, member handle, and an optional profile photo.
• Golf records you create. Rounds and hole-by-hole scores, handicap information (self-reported, or synced from the USGA GHIN system if you connect it), games and their results, highlights, course reviews and tips, bucket lists, and photos you attach to posts.
• Financial records between members. The App tracks stakes, expenses, and who-owes-whom ledgers for games and trips you take part in. These are bookkeeping records only — golfa never holds, transfers, or processes money (see the Terms).
• Location. If you grant location permission, we store your approximate location to power proximity features (matching you with nearby members via "Pull the Flag"). Your location is never shown to other members — only approximate distance relationships are used. You can decline or revoke permission at any time in iOS Settings.
• Device and notification data. A push-notification token if you enable notifications, and your notification preferences.
• Subscription status. Your membership level, synced from Apple via our subscription-management provider. We never see or store your payment card details — payments are handled entirely by Apple.

What we don't do

• We do not sell member data. To anyone, for anything.
• We do not run advertising and do not share data with advertisers or data brokers.
• We do not track you across other apps or websites.
• We do not process payments or hold funds; settlement of amounts tracked in the App happens between members, outside the App.

Who can see what

Visibility inside the App follows your choices. Posts carry member-controlled visibility levels (from public-to-members through private). Financial records for a game or trip are visible only to its participants and to viewers a host explicitly adds with an on-screen consent step. Your location is never visible to other members. Note that "public" content is public to golfa members — the App has no anonymous public web presence for member content.

Service providers

We use a small number of infrastructure providers to run the App, each processing data solely on our behalf: Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), RevenueCat (subscription status management), Apple (payments, push-notification delivery), and Expo (app runtime and push-notification routing). If you connect GHIN, handicap data is exchanged with the United States Golf Association's GHIN service per their terms.

Data retention and deletion

You can delete your account at any time inside the App (Profile → Delete account). Deletion is permanent: your profile is scrubbed and your login, posts, photos, rounds, and network connections are destroyed. Records that belong equally to other members — the results of games you played and ledger entries between you and them — remain in their records, attributed to "Deleted member" with no personal information attached. Deleting your account does not cancel your Apple subscription; manage that in iOS Settings.

Age requirement

golfa is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from minors; accounts believed to belong to minors are terminated.

Security

Member data is protected with industry-standard measures: encrypted transport, row-level database access controls, and server-side enforcement of visibility and membership rules. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affecting your personal information occurs, we will notify affected members as required by law.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. Most of these are available directly in the App (your records are yours to view and edit; deletion is built in). For anything else, contact us and we will respond within the timelines applicable law requires.

Changes and contact

1. Acceptance

By creating an account or using the golfa application ("the App"), you agree to these Terms & Conditions and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App. We may update these Terms at any time; continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.

2. Eligibility — Adults Only

golfa is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, if higher) to create an account or use the App. The App includes features that track wagers between members; it is not intended for, marketed to, or open to minors. By creating an account you represent that you are 18 or older. We may suspend or terminate any account we believe belongs to a minor, without notice or refund.

3. Membership & Billing

golfa is a paid membership club. There is no free tier.

• Membership levels (Amateur, Pro, Stick) are auto-renewing subscriptions billed through your Apple App Store account at the prices shown in the App.
• Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, via your App Store subscription settings.
• Fees are non-refundable except where required by law or by Apple's policies. Termination of your account for violating these Terms does not entitle you to a refund.
• Feature access is determined by your membership level and may change; we will provide notice of material reductions in what a level includes.

4. Community Standards — Keep It Classy

Golf is a game built on etiquette, honesty, and respect for the people you play with. golfa is built the same way, and we hold members to the standard of the game.

By using the App you agree to:

• Keep comments, captions, posts, and photos classy. No harassment, hate speech, slurs, threats, bullying, doxxing, sexually explicit material, or gratuitous profanity directed at other members.
• Play it as it lies. No falsified scores, manipulated handicaps, fake rounds, or misrepresentation of your identity or ability.
• Respect the ledger. Enter honest amounts, settle your debts as agreed, and do not use golfa's financial-tracking features to harass or defraud other members.
• No spam, solicitation, or scraping. No commercial solicitation of members, automated access, or harvesting of member data.
• No unlawful use. Do not use the App in violation of any applicable law, including laws governing wagering in your jurisdiction (see Section 5).

We decide what violates these standards. Members whose conduct falls short of the game's can lose their membership — see Section 7.

5. Stakes, Games & the Ledger — What golfa Is and Is Not

golfa provides scorekeeping, game-formatting, expense-splitting, and debt-tracking tools ("Ledger features") for games and trips that members organize privately among people they know.

golfa is not a gambling operator, bookmaker, escrow service, payment processor, or party to any wager. Specifically:

• All stakes are agreed privately between members. golfa records what members tell it; it does not set odds, hold funds, transfer money, or guarantee payment.
• Settlement happens entirely off-platform, between members, by whatever method they choose. A "settled" status in the App is a record-keeping mark, not a payment confirmation.
• Stakes features are available only between mutually-accepted network partners, and stake amounts are capped in-App. These limits are product policy and may change; they are not legal advice.
• You are solely responsible for ensuring that any wager you enter is lawful where you are. Laws on private social wagering vary by state and country. If wagering between private individuals is not lawful in your jurisdiction, do not use stakes features.
• golfa has no obligation to mediate, collect, or enforce any debt between members and accepts no liability for unpaid stakes or expenses.

6. Content & License

You own the content you post (scores, photos, captions, reviews, tips). By posting, you grant golfa a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute that content within the App and in reasonable promotion of the App, consistent with your chosen visibility settings. You represent you have the rights to what you post. We may remove any content at any time for any reason.

7. Termination — Our Sole Discretion

We may suspend or permanently terminate any account, at any time, with or without notice, with or without stated cause, for any reason or no reason, at our sole and absolute discretion. Reasons may include — but are in no way limited to — violation of these Terms, conduct we consider inconsistent with the standards of the game or the character of the club, risk to other members, legal or regulatory risk to golfa, or chargeback/payment abuse.

Upon termination: your license to use the App ends immediately; no refund is owed for any unused subscription period (except where Apple's policies or applicable law require otherwise); we may retain data as needed for legal, safety, and record-keeping purposes per the Privacy Policy; and any outstanding debts recorded in the Ledger remain matters strictly between the members involved.

You may delete your account at any time in the App or by contacting support.

8. Disclaimers

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY OF SCORING OR HANDICAP DATA, OR UNINTERRUPTED AVAILABILITY. Handicap figures displayed in the App (including GHIN-synced figures) are informational; official handicaps are maintained by the applicable governing body.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, GOLFA'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE. GOLFA SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, NOR FOR ANY LOSSES ARISING FROM WAGERS, DEBTS, OR DISPUTES BETWEEN MEMBERS.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold golfa harmless from claims arising out of your content, your conduct, your wagers, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

11. Disputes; Governing Law; Arbitration

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of [STATE]. Any dispute shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration under the rules of [AAA/JAMS], and you waive any right to participate in a class action. Small-claims matters and injunctive relief for IP violations are excepted. [ATTORNEY: confirm arbitration clause enforceability and venue.]

12. Miscellaneous

If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder survives. These Terms plus the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may.
